Visit to Lake of the Ozarks

I can't believe it has been a week since I have blogged. The first part of the last week was just working around the yard and house. Jack had a dental appointment and we had an appointment with our financial adviser, heard all the great news, ha ha, for the year!!

On Thursday, we left for our son's condo at the Lake of the Ozarks. Jack, Virgene (my sister), and I drove down to the Lake. It is about 150 miles south of Kansas City. Jack is always ready to go there so he can fish. Since we didn't see much water in Arizona, he was more than ready this time. The weather forecast was a mixture of sun and rain showers.

We got down to the Lake around 1:00 p.m. The sun was out and it was around 70. Great weather. We got things unloaded and Jack was out to fish. Our son has added a new dock so he another place to catch the big one!! My sister and I went over to the outlets to check the bargains. Ran by the grocery store and got some supplies.
Here is a picture of Jack trying to find the big one? (sorry about the color had the camera on the wrong setting and didn't realize until we got back)

Friday was a nice day also. We had sun and warm weather most of the day. Jack was out fishing early, middle and late day. But after all his fishing most of the catches were not real big but at least he was fishing and catching something. He just catches and releases his fish. He fishes mainly for large mouth bass. Us girls did a little more shopping and then just sat out on the deck and enjoyed the sun. Late in the day we had a shower but didn't it last but a hour or so.

On Saturday, we drove in Lebanon, MO to visit Jack's sister-in-law; my brother and his wife; and my niece and her family. It was good to see all the relatives and catch up on the news with all of them. Got back to the condo around 6:30 p.m. My niece's husband is a computer whiz and he updated one of our computers while we were there. Thanks Jared!!

The Ozarks are known for their blooming dogwood trees at this time of the year. Matter of fact their is a small town by the Lake that actually has a Dogwood Festival to celebrate the blooming of them. Here is a couple pictures of the dogwoods:

Sunday morning we woke up to a much cooler temperature. It was in the high 40s and cloudy. But we were going to drive back so it wasn't too bad. We got back to KC around 6:00 p.m. Over all had a good trip.

Nice Weather Again

The weekend weather has been much better. Yesterday started off cool but by afternoon is was partly sunny and in the mid-60s. Today is was sunny and mid-70s. That is so great. I sure hope it lasts more than two days.

Last night Jack and I did something we hadn't done before. We went to the Kansas City Arena Football game. We have seen it on TV but had never actually been to one. Our son, Chad, called and said he had two extra free tickets and wanted to know if we could go with them. Of course we wanted to go. It was quite different from a regular football game. For one thing, it was very fast moving. They seem to always pass the ball instead running it. The football itself seemed to be smaller and softer (don't really know this but looked as if it was). The players did not seem to have as many pads on as the NFL players. But we really enjoyed it. And, KC's team actually won their first game last night. They play in KC's new sports arena in downtown KC.

Here is a couple pictures Jack took while we were at the game:

Action on the field:

After the game, which we made it though the third quarter with Bronson, we walked over to the new Kansas City Power and Light District which has just opened in the last few months. It is continuing to expand with new restaurants, bars and entertainment avenues. It is really a very nice area and will definitely bring people back downtown Kansas City. Until the new sports arena and this new district opened, the downtown was not a place you really wanted to go. Here are a couple pictures of the district:

After church today, we just came home and worked around here. While we were gone on our winter trip, our refrigerator developed a problem. For some reason, the drain was covered with ice, and wouldn't drain correctly. So Jack took it apart and got it all cleaned out. I worked outside for while and cleaned out the flower beds and visited with the neighbors.

Another Week Gone By

Monday brought the sunshine to KC!! We were so excited to see the sun and the warm weather. It was in the 60s and 70s the first part of the week and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We bought some new patio furniture that had to be put together, so that kept Jack busy for a day. But today the weather turned to cooler and rainy. I guess we have to have the Spring showers to have our green grass and blooming flowers. All the flowering trees are blooming and they are so pretty.

I had some routine doctor appointments this week - trying to catch up on these type of things. Wednesday I got back to my volunteering job at the Liberty Hospital. I really enjoyed doing this. I only volunteer a couple of times a month but I always feel better after I have done it. We have a great team to work with. This week it was a fun job - a fundraiser with a jewelry shop. I enjoy working this one.

The Spring garage sales are starting to pop up around here. Tomorrow Jack and I are going to see what they have for sale. We enjoy just going and looking to see what treasures we can find.

Sorry, LaVon I didn't get a picture of Bronson when we had him on Tuesday. I couldn't locate the camera. I found it the next day out in the car. I'll get one the next we have him.

April 11, 2008

On Tuesday, we went to have our taxes figured. This is the latest we have ever had them done but since we were not sure when we would be back to KC we had made an appointment for this week. Good thing since I hadn't gathered any of the information together before we left. At least we have that done for another year.

Jack had an appointment with the dermatologist yesterday to have a spot looked at on his face. He has an history of skin cancer so we frequent the doctor often. Luckily she said it didn't look that bad so she just shot it with the "freezing medicine" and said that should take care of it. At least he didn't have to have any more cutting done.

I met two of my "ole" co-workers yesterday for lunch. It is always nice to see them and catch up on things going on with the FAA. They already knew that DeAnn was coming back to work for the FAA as another one of our co-workers, now located in Ft. Worth, handles all the personnel actions for the facility DeAnn will be working. So I brought up to speed on the happenings with the Hoover's. They brought me up on all the problems the FAA is having with the aircraft inspections, etc. You know I'm really glad I'm retired!!

Today Jack and I are going to play Grandma and Grandpa with our youngest grandson, Bronson. We are going to pick him up around 10:30 a.m. and keep him most of the day. We are looking forward to that. It is always nice to have them by themselves (I guess that might be selfish of us) but it is still nice. His Mommy needs a day to do what she wants to do for a change. I'll get Jack to take some pictures so I can post them.

The weather here in KC is really ugly. We had severe thunderstorms roll through yesterday afternoon and last night. Thank goodness we didn't have any major damage like some other areas did. It is cool and windy today. I'm definitely ready for some nice weather. The weatherman is forecasting that next Wednesday is to be sunny and warm (70s) - I can't wait.

Busy Weekend

Friday the young couple from Wichita, KS came to pick up the old trailer they had bought. I know that the trailer is going to a good home as they were a really nice couple. This was their first true enclosed camper. They had camped in tents, etc., but never with all the conveniences of a true trailer. It was nice to see it go to them.

Friday night my niece Tara, my brother's daughter, and her two little ones came in for the weekend. It is always nice to see them and catch up. She definitely has her hands full - three boys under the age of 4 1/2 - but she loves it. She is the best Mother and has the patience for it. Saturday she wanted to do some shopping so we took off with the two little ones. It turned out fine. The youngest one, 9 months, slept the entire time we were shopping in the stores. Thank goodness for strollers. After shopping, we visited with our son Chad and his son; then on over to my sister's house to see her kids and grandchildren. So we had a full day. I slept really good last night.

Tara and the kids left after we had a big breakfast. She wanted to stop a couple places on the way back to home, Lebanon, MO.

My sister stayed for a while and Jack shared the pictures with her that we had taken while on our winter trip to Arizona. Told her about all the nice people we met while at Quail Run.

New Grandbaby News & Jack's Birthday Celebration

Last night we went to Chad and Cathy's, our youngest son and wife, house to celebrate Jack's belated birthday with the family. We had a delicious dinner with both our sons and their families. Cathy is an excellent cook and enjoys cooking, which is great for us.

It was great to visit with all the family especially seeing all our grandchildren. They are growing up so fast.

The most exciting news of the evening was that Chad and Cathy are expecting a new baby in October. This is great news!! We are so excited for them. Both our sons didn't get married until they were in their 30s so I told them you better get busy with the babies or you will be too old to play with them!! Chad and Cathy have Bronson who will be 2 when the new one gets here. That is a good separation in age for them.

God is so good to us for this blessing.

Here is a picture of "Grandpa Jack" with Bronson. He was helping Jack open his presents:
